New Beginnings
Building our Studio from Scratch
Hello hello - Bixa here again to keep you updated on all things Thought Forms. This month is crazy with holiday madness, now paired with a huge and exciting move from our old countryside studio to the new one right around the corner.

At the end of November, Dan and I headed to Lancaster for the last time. A bitter wind blew across the fields and split our skin as we cleared out our materials from the dye house. On this freezing day, we were joined by our good friends Bec and Kenny, who we bribed with lunch at Honey Brook BBQ. After filling the van we filled our bellies with pulled pork sandwiches and double fried potatoes, then did our final round at the Country Thrift and Gift (Dan’s favorite thrift store, and one worth the stop if you’re ever driving down 340). We then drove back to Philly, Dan at the wheel and me in the passenger seat with our 50-pound dog on my lap, cabin filled with dye pots, buckets of dye, lake pigments, a loom, a mattress (long story) and all the other objects you forget you’ve been storing ‘for the perfect project’ down the line.
The transition has been quite silly. Our greenhouse and yard have become an impromptu drying area for lake pigments and pieces I have been dyeing in the kitchen. Winter is not the best time of year for dyeing fabric in the yard, but we make it work. The greenhouse typically stays above 60F in the sunshine - sometimes reaching 80F - and you can often find Joni napping in the sun while I hang a series of small works on the greenhouse rafters.
Meanwhile, the studio proper is gaining momentum. We’ve been priming and painting the space, working with a plumber to design our spray booth, and driving around the tri-state area collecting essentials, like these gorgeous 50 gallon steel vats.
It’s hard to say exactly when we will be officially moved in and making new work, but we hope by January. There is still so much to do, but there is also so much done. The momentum is feeling good. Slowly but surely.

Or rather- slowly and surely.
For the past 4 years our work has been made almost exclusively on the weekends or after hours at the dye house. Although the new space is much smaller than the last, we are entering an expansive time. We are replacing a 1-2 hour drive with a four minute walk; we are replacing weekend access with daily access; we are replacing shared space with a space all our own.

Our work will be evolving more rapidly in 2026 in ways we can at present only dream of. Thank you for being a part of it all.
